Carol's Reviews - An American in Paris
An American in Paris is now playing in the Palace Theatre in New York! This elegant, fresh new version of the classic movie definitely belongs in a Palace! A story unfolding through rich classic ballet, funky modern jazz and the music of George and Ira Gershwin’s, choreographed and directed by Christopher Wheeldon can not possibly be anything but pure entertainment! The show is a dancers delight!
It’s the story of three young buddies, unbeknown to each other but all in love with the same woman with a very dark secret. Prima ballerina, Leanne Cope of the Royal Ballet, plays our leading lady. Although the final Ballet scene leaves you absolutely breathless there are some imaginative dances on chairs and an awkward but charming “Fidgety Feet” number and an amazing Radio City Spectacular number to knock your sox off!
The simple designs and use of vibrant color and lighting lend to the atmosphere of classic elegance with a very modern abstract twist.
I’m giving it two stars as I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely see it again.
